Health Plan of San Joaquin is launching our annual required Cultural Competency Training and Attestation collection from 09/01/2020-11/02/2020 EXTENDED to FRIDAY  11/13/2020.

Training

Based on Title 22, California Code of Regulations (CCR) Sections, 53876(a)(4), 53876(c),

53851(b)(2), 53851(e), 53853(d), 53910.5(a)(2); Title 28, CCR, Section

1300.67.04(c)(1)(A) through (B); and Title 42, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Sections 438.206(c)(2), 438.330(b)(4), 438.242(b)(2), Health Plan of San Joaquin is required to provide annual Cultural Competency training to our participating provider network and delegated entities.

The training is mandated by California’s Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) and the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to ensure providers and delegated entities are meeting the unique and diverse needs of all members. As part of new federal requirements, Cultural Competency training will be noted in the Provider Directory. Providers having taken a training receive a Cultural Competency designation – please see below for attestation instructions.

HPSJ has adopted policies and procedures that are consistent with the National Standards (i.e., DHCS and California’s Department of Managed Health Care)for Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services (CLAS). These aim to ensure that HPSJ members
receive:

  • Equal and respectful care in a manner compatible with their cultural health beliefs and practices
  • Preferred language at every medical and non-medical encounter

Attestation Process

 By Monday November 2, 2020 Friday, November 13, 2020, please complete and digitally sign the attestation form.

The attestation form is also included with the online training on the HPSJ website

(https://www.hpsj.com/culturalcompetencytraining/). It requires your signature to:

  1. Attest to receipt of these training materials
  2. Confirm you have completed review of these materials
  3. Acknowledge you have taken part in a cultural competency training

Have you already taken cultural competency training?

HPSJ will accept your attestation, if you have taken a training to comply with another health plan. We will also accept it by following the steps above.
