In accordance with the Department of Health Care Service (DHCS) publication, effective July 1, 2024, Assembly Bill 118, Chapter 42, Statutes of 2023, requires providers participating in the Presumptive Eligibility (PE) program to report the births of newborns with linkage to Medi-Cal and the Medi-Cal Access Infant Program born in their facilities within 72 hours after birth or 24 hours after discharge, whichever is sooner. The Newborn Gateway is in development for use in this process along with supplemental Computer-Based Training (CBT) and other reference material.
Access to the Newborn Gateway requires the successful completion of the following:
• Children’s Presumptive Eligibility CBT or
• Presumptive Eligibility for Pregnant Women CBT or
• Hospital Presumptive Eligibility CBT and
• The Newborn Gateway Supplemental CBT
Starting July 1, 2024, any provider or location actively enrolled PE must ensure existing PE-trained staff have completed and passed the supplemental Newborn Gateway CBT. The Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) has made the supplemental training available for providers through the Medi-Cal Learning Portal (MLP).
