Healthcare Effectiveness Data Information Set (HEDIS) for Measurement Year 2023

The following is reminder regarding Chlamydia Screening in Women (CHL):

Women 16 – 24 years of age identified as sexually active must have at least one test for chlamydia before the end of the calendar year.

Claims data for prescriptions of birth control, testing for pregnancy, or diagnosis codes are used to identify sexual activity.

Recommended Best Practices:

1. Make testing part of your offices annual visit routine – Include chlamydia testing as part of a routine clinical preventative care visit for women 15 – 24 years of age.
2. Educate patients on importance of annual testing – Clearly explain the
   significance of chlamydia testing in preventing and managing health issues.
   Provide information on the asymptomatic nature of chlamydia and the
   importance of early detection.
3. Emphasize Confidentiality – Reassure patients that all testing and results are kept confidential.
4. Normalize the conversation – Use non‐stigmatized language to discuss sexual health. Normalize the conversation around Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) testing, emphasizing that it is a routine part of comprehensive healthcare.
5. Address Common Concerns – Anticipate and address potential concerns or misconceptions patients may have about chlamydia testing.
