(French Camp, CA) – As part of National Nurses Week, Health Plan of San Joaquin (HPSJ) celebrated not just nurses but the entire Medical Management Department, an annual celebration, with an appreciation lunch hosted and served by the HPSJ medical leadership in HPSJ’s Community Room. In addition to care management and disease management nurses, the department of 130 dedicated medical management professionals includes health navigators, social workers, pharmacists, health educators, intake processors, and behavioral health staff.

Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-09), whose district includes San Joaquin County, was invited to attend and speak at the celebration. He said, “Thank you HPSJ and your Medical Management staff for the work you do to improve the health of our community. I am honored to participate in this HPSJ Medical Management Staff Appreciation.” He added, “During this National Nurses Week, we appreciate all the medical management staff who work tirelessly every day to help improve the health of our community and all HPSJ members, now totaling over 330,000.”

Congressman McNerney was introduced by HPSJ Chief Medical Office Dr. Lakshmi Dhanvanthari who listed several of the Congressman’s health-related policy efforts, including his work from the House Committee on Veterans Affairs to make sure veterans receive the care and benefits they have earned, such as improved care for traumatic brain injuries.

Regarding HPSJ’s Medical Management team, Dhanvanthari added, “The staff work in coordinating care and addressing our members’ health care needs by working with our network providers and our members. Whether arranging for timely outpatient care and inpatient care, providing appropriate medications and arranging for safe discharges, or meeting social services and health education needs, we work closely with our members and their health care providers.”

HPSJ CEO Amy Shin said, “As we celebrate our 20th anniversary in this fast-changing healthcare landscape, the hardworking Medical Management Department is an essential part of our 300-strong employee team that is leading the way as we ensure access to culturally sensitive, quality health care for our growing, diverse community.”
