Description: Join us for an engaging lunchtime CASE session with Chris Weston, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, as we explore the connection between anxiety, depression, and substance use.
- Many individuals experience anxiety and depression, yet these challenges often go unseen.
- In an effort to cope with overwhelming thoughts or emotional pain, some turn to substances for relief, which can create a cycle that is difficult to break.
- Drawing from personal experience with mental health and his clinical work, Chris will provide a clear and approachable overview of how these experiences intersect.
- This session will also highlight how stigma can impact help-seeking and what supportive responses can look like.
Learning Objectives:
- What anxiety and depression can look like
- Why individuals may turn to substances to cope
- How the cycle of use and worsening symptoms develops
- Ways to support individuals with compassion and care
Whether you work in prevention, healthcare, education, community outreach, or just want to learn more, this session will help you better understand these challenges and support your community.
