An Important Message from the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS)
The Naloxone Distribution Project (NOP) is funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and administered by the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) to combat opioid overdose-related deaths throughout California.
Starting October 1,2018, qualified organizations and entities will be able to request FREE naloxone from DHCS. Examples include:
- First Responders
- Emergency Medical Services
- Fire Departments
- Law Enforcement, Courts, & Criminal
- Justice Partners
- Veteran Organizations
- Homeless Programs
- Schools and Universities
- Religious Entities
- Community Organizations
What is Naloxone?
Naloxone is a life-saving medication tha tworks to reverse an opioid overdose while having little to no effects on an individual if opioids are not present in their system. Naloxone blocks opioid receptor sites, reversing the toxic effects of opioid overdose.
There are different ways to administer naloxone to an individual who is experiencing an opioid overdose.
How to Request Naloxone:
