(French Camp, CA) – Health Plan of San Joaquin (HPSJ) supports local students through its Health Careers Scholarship Program (HCSP). The program provides funding for high achieving, under-represented students to consider a career in medicine and encourages them to return to the Central Valley to serve our diverse community.

HPSJ’s scholarship program focuses on local graduating high school seniors and full-time college students with a goal of improving access to health care by expanding the number of medical professionals serving the Valley.

HPSJ’s Chief Medical Office, Dr. Lakshmi Dhanvanthari said, “We believe in the importance of fostering relationships that will improve health equity and access to quality healthcare in our community. Investing in students who have a connection to this area and can relate to the people they will eventually care for is a motivator and we couldn’t be more proud to support them on this journey.”

Through our partnership with University of the Pacific, CSU Stanislaus, San Joaquin Delta College, Modesto Junior College, Decision Medicine, Health Careers Academy High School and Grace Davis Health Careers Academy, HPSJ selected 28 students to receive scholarships ranging from $2000-$3000 totaling $77,000. The students are focusing on careers in biological science, vascular surgery, psychology, neuroscience and more.

Congratulations to scholarship recipients: Anthony Luna, Ashley Peterson, Dayanara Flores, Gurleen Sharma, Harmandeep Singh Batth, Jessica Ximena Alcala, Prabhnoor Dhillon, Shelby Miller, Stacy Hui Du, Caiya Sims, Estrella Zuniga-Lopez, Giovanna Chukwuma, Noorin Ghafoori, Sirita Tek, Yarely Lopez, Juan Lopez, Mohammed Buksh, Alma Jacklyn Limon Bravo, Ariana S.
