Developmental Disabilities and Regional Centers

Health Plan of San Joaquin/Mountain Valley Health Plan (“Health Plan”) Members with developmental disabilities (special needs) may be eligible for services from Regional Centers.

  • Regional Centers serve children and adults living with developmental disabilities (special needs).
  • Free diagnosis, assessment (testing), and supportive services are available to any person suspected of having a developmental disability such as intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, or autism.
  • To qualify for ongoing services, a person must be found to have a developmental disability which began before the age of 18 and is a substantial handicap.

When a doctor identifies a developmental delay (special needs), they can refer you or your child to the Regional Center to get more support and services.
