Healthy Holiday Season

(French Camp, CA) – Health Plan of San Joaquin (HPSJ) asks that we find joy in health this holiday season saying: “It’s easy to start to feel overwhelmed when cold outside and there is too much to do. You are not alone. Try some of these tips to keep your health on track and find joy in the season.”

  1. Keep up healthy habits: It is easy to let your daily walk or weekly Zumba session lose priority. Make some time to keep yourself active. Just a few minutes each day. Take an extra lap around the store to make sure you didn’t miss anything. Turn on some music and dance after dinner. Take a few moments to get your body moving.
  2. Savor EACH Bite: It’s ok to eat cookies and cakes when you celebrate with friends and family. When it comes to food it is important to eat mindfully. Savor each bite and really taste your food. Think about the texture, the warmth, the sweet or saltiness. Mindful and intentional eating can help you enjoy your food more without overindulging and feeling sick later.
  3. Find time to rest: Some of us are tired from the endless activities. Sometimes it’s just the amount of noise and people. Maybe it is a mixture of work and family. Whatever is triggering your stress this season, take some to take a break and rest. Go for a walk, listen to some music, watch a show. Cherish your quiet time when you need it.

Get your flu shot! It officially is flu season. Protect those babies and older family members. Wash your hands often, wear a mask in crowded areas, and be respectful of personal space. Also, it now is RSV season – but for that virus there is no shot. Still, we can protect those babies and older family members with handwashing, masking in crowded areas, and respecting personal space.
