Pertussis and H1N1 Threat Close

Provider Alert

June 14, 2010

Pertussis and H1N1 are still a threat.

Save a Baby – Vaccinate Your Patients

Pertussis cases are up in California and two infants have died. Think pertussis – Consider the diagnosis of pertussis in your patients and their close contacts. Public Health officials recommend pertussis vaccination (DTap or Tdap, as age appropriate) for all persons who will have contact with infants.

H1N1 (Swine Flu) is not over. H1N1 cases continue to occur in the U.S. CDC recommends that pregnant women, children and others at risk for H1N1 receive the vaccine now. It’s possible that the flu will spread before the next seasonal flu vaccine, which will include the H1N1 virus, is available. Primary Care Providers should continue to offer the vaccine to their patients. You can also contact San Joaquin County Public Health Services for more information at www.sjcphs.org or (209) 468-3830.

Thank you for your efforts to prevent pertussis and H1N1 infections in San Joaquin County.
