Health Plan of San Joaquin is a strong not-for-profit, managed care plan serving the Medi-Cal beneficiaries. In the last six years, our health plan has had extraordinary growth. By 2018, 180,000 had grown to 350,000 members. We know our community, struggling with economic hardships and work opportunities. Larger percentages of Medi-Cal beneficiaries are in our counties compared to the California average. Our area doesn’t have enough primary care physicians serving our residents. We’re well below the recommended 60-80 doctors per 100,000 residents. Then add harsh problems of housing and food insecurity, and literacy issues throughout our area. Despite these barriers, we at Health Plan of Health Joaquin expect our members to have true, meaningful access to care.
In 2018, we saw that our efforts are paying off and gaining firm traction. Many of our efforts are through collaborations with like-minded community leaders and groups. For example –
